In the previous article of this series we covered QTP VBScript basics and the VBScript variables<\/a>. In this article, we’ll see the different types of operators in VBScript that you would be using frequently while working with QTP scripts. Operators in VBScript can be divided into four different types. These are –<\/p>\n

a) Arithmetic Operators
\nb) Comparison Operators
\nc) Logical Operators
\nd) Concatenation Operator<\/p>\n

VBScript Operators<\/p><\/div>\n

Arithmetic Operators<\/h3>\n

These operators are used to perform mathematical operations. Lets see the different arithmetic operators we have in VBScript.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

+<\/strong><\/td>\nAddition of numbers<\/td>\n3+5 = 8<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
–<\/strong><\/td>\nSubtraction of numbers<\/td>\n7-5 = 2<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\/<\/strong><\/td>\nFinds the quotient when a number is divided by another<\/td>\n5\/3 = 1, 9\/3 = 3, 15\/2 = 7<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
*<\/strong><\/td>\nMultiplication of numbers<\/td>\n2*5*3 = 30<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
^<\/strong><\/td>\nExponent. Computes the power.<\/td>\n2^3 = 8, 3^2 = 9<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Mod<\/strong><\/td>\nFinds the remainder when a number is divided by another.<\/td>\n5 mod 3 = 2, 9 mod 5 = 4, 10 mod 5 = 0<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Comparison Operators<\/h3>\n

Comparison operators are used to compare different numbers\/strings and are mostly used in conditional statements such as If condition. Let’s see the different comparison operators available in VBScript.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/td>\nChecks if a number is greater than the other<\/span><\/span><\/td>\n10 > 5 is True<\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
<\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/td>\nChecks if a number is less than the other<\/span><\/span><\/td>\n10 < 5 is False<\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Logical Operators<\/h3>\n

Logical operators help you deduce some result based on certain set of conditions. For example, if ‘today is holiday’<\/strong><\/span> and<\/strong><\/span> ‘its not raining’<\/strong><\/span> then ‘i will play outside’<\/span><\/strong>. Lets see the different logical operators that are available in VBScript.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Operator<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/td>\nWhat it Does<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/td>\nExample<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
And<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/td>\nAll conditions must be true for the output to hold.<\/span><\/span><\/td>\nIf var > 99 and var < 1000 then var is a\u00a0three digit number.<\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Or<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/td>\nOutput holds if any of the conditions is true.<\/span><\/span><\/td>\nIf num = 50 or num = 100 then num is divisible by 10.<\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Not<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/td>\nInverts the result. If value is true, Not converts it to false. If value is false, Not converts it to true.<\/span><\/span><\/td>\ntr = True <\/em>

Concatenation Operator<\/h3>\n

Concatenation operator is used to concatenate or join strings. There is only one concatenation operator – & (ampersand).\u00a0Lets see how it is\u00a0used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
